PROJECT HOPE
BLOG
After the Adopt a Mom project I thought I would keep a blog as a way
of allowing people to see the process of a project. There so many
incredible, and wonderful and serendipitous moments that led up to
the moments of the project, I wish everyone could have experienced
them. So this blog is my way of opening the door to those who are
interested in the tiny miracles that happen in order for a project
to happen. I will write as much as I can as we go through this and
you may see the good, the bad, the easy and the hard things. There
is always equally as much stress as there is joy but in the end when
you see the end result you realize that the joy will always outweigh
the stress. Always. |

This past week has been a back and forth
communication between Miriam and our potential candidate, Marie, as
well as another woman who has been referred to us. We will meet with
Marie next week and talk with her, see how we may be a fit. It was
wonderful to hear from Miriam about her experience in talking with
her. I am amazed at the stories of those around us and how strong
women are, most are. There is so much to learn from someone who
literally stares eye to eye with death and wins ... In the few email
exchanges I've had with Marie myself she has expressed a huge desire
just to educate people about Ovarian Cancer - it often goes unnoticed
but still affects so many woman from all walks of life - cancer does
not discriminate. I'm glad this time around
I have Kim and Miriam helping me from the start. Most of the joy
comes in the process we are experiencing. So many times with the
Adopt a Mom project I had only wished people were able to see the
entire process - all the work, the tears, the joys, the struggles,
the long hours - so much goes into the project that remains unseen.
This time though, Kim and Miriam will experience it first hand. I am
grateful, so very grateful for all their help. |

Received a text message from Miriam last night
that she may have a lead on a woman who has ovarian cancer and may
be a good candidate for our next project. I'm hopeful we will find
the right person and hopeful that we will be able to provide
something to comfort her spirit in this battle. It amazes me in this
quest to learn how many women fight ovarian cancer. I decided to do
a little research, 23,000 women a year are diagnosed with ovarian
cancer. The symptoms of ovarian cancer are similar to things I see
in my office every day with just ordinary pains. I have always
believed education is the best prevention to ill health so please,
take a moment to
look at they symptoms so you are informed for yourself and those
around you! |

I am fortunate enough to have many contacts in
this town in nearly every genre available. I've tapped into some of
my resources of people who work in the health care industry and have
put the bug in their ear to find me a woman who has ovarian cancer
but has an amazing spirit and attitude, a woman who may not have
much means by way of support and someone who would be open to
Isabelle's House doing something for her that would empower,
fulfill, and bring peace to her life. Now that it is out there, she
will find her way to us - this I know for sure. |

I had been thinking hard about what our next
project would or could be. How could we do something of the same
magnitude as our last project,
Adopt a Mom? I
hadn't been to my office in a few days and today in my mail was a
check from Glenda Hammer. Glenda is a lifelong friend of my mom's
and had known my Grandma (Isabelle)
since she was seven years old. She had been to my website and saw
what I was doing with Isabelle's House and decided to donate $500 to
our fund. Between the tears of reading her heartfelt card it came to
me what my next project would be .... to help someone who is
fighting ovarian cancer. Glenda has battled ovarian cancer for a
number of years and through it all has maintained an amazing
attitude and spirit. She has embraced life despite the cancer and
has successfully fought it and continues to fight it. So there it is
- the birth of Project Hope. The details will be fuzzy until we find
the woman so the next step is to find her. |
