About Miriam

Miriam is a native New Yorker by birth and a South Carolinian by choice – she has fallen in love with its people and her natural beauty, including the smell of pluff mud!  For over thirty years, she has dedicated her life for the advancement of women’s social and health causes.  During the 1980’s, she served on various Task Forces for the National Organization for Women (NOW).  Receiving her formal training through the MUSC School of Nurse Midwifery, she is a Board Certified Nurse Practitioner, holds Prescriptive Authority and currently provides women’s health care services at South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC).  She possesses a post-master’s Management Academy Certificate, awarded by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, from the Kenan-Flagler Business School and from the School of Public Health.  In 1997, she was awarded the Associate Public Manager Certificate, granted by the State of South Carolina/State Budget & Control Board.  She is a 2002 Palmetto Gold Recipient – awarded by the South Carolina Nurses Association, in recognition of excellence in Nursing practice and commitment to the profession.

Past Boards that she recently had the honor on serving on, include: the South Carolina Nurses Association/Edisto Nurses Association, Lowcountry Paddlers, and her synagogue’s Sisterhood at Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim in Charleston.  She was the  Coordinator for the 2001 Festival of Arts, which was sponsored by Lowcountry Gay and Lesbian Alliance (LGLA), which brought together some of the finest artists of the Charleston area together to raise money and awareness for Lowcountry AIDS Services.  She also holds current memberships in Alliance for Full Acceptance (AFFA), the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), Hadassah (the Women’s Zionist Organization of America – dedicated to bringing hope, health and harmony into today’s world) and the Sierra Club.

As a Reiki practitioner (Usui tradition), she volunteers her services through the Reiki Connection – a local Reiki Share of which she is affiliated with.  Besides her training in  energy medicine,  she has studied within the realm of Akashic Records.  Healing herbalism holds a great interest for her- a path that she would like to explore in the future.

It is with much gratitude that she comes to serve on the Board of Isabelle’s House.
